Reading Camp

Back to the Library

As a component of the Reading Camp, University of Moratuwa Library wishes to re-open the school library in Bodhiraja Vidyalaya collaborating with school teachers. As a result, a library book will be issued to every child on Wednesdays. Children will be asked to do an activity, based on the “Empowering 8” information literacy model. In the inauguration ceremony of “Reading Camp,” Mr. Anura Kiriella also educated the students about the proper use of library and highlighted the importance of reading.

Animals around us

Ms. Nayani Gunawardana conducted an activity based programme on Animals for students of Grade 1and 2 on 9th October, 2013.  Poems, songs and stories used in this programme entertained the children as well as provided facts and figures about the animals around us. Mr. Roshan Fernando, Mr. Chamara Herath and Ms. Mallika Mahagedara provided the technical assistance.

Language Learning with Colours

In collaboration with school teachers, language learning activities were carried out for students of Grade 1 and 2 using colours on Wednesday, 23rd October, 2013.  Mr. Thushara Bandaranayaka introduced colouring techniques. Mr. Roshan Fernando and Mr. Manjula  Jayatilaka provided the technical assistance.

Stamp World

Stamp collecting is one of the world's most popular hobbies. Mrs. Chandani Kalupahana conducted a session on stamp collecting with Mrs. Indu Malalgoda for students of Grade 3, 4 and 5. Along with the history and practices of stamp collecting, they made a demonstration on “How to make a stamp album” to encourage students. Mr. Roshan Fernando and Mr. Manjula  Jayatilaka provided the technical assistance.

Beyond the Sky

Through videos, poems and demonstrations, Grade 3, 4 and 5 students were given an opportunity to experience the facts about the sky. Mrs. Indu Malalgoda conducted the session “විශ්මිත අහස“ while Mrs. Chandani Kalupahana assisted. At the end of the programme a quiz was held in collaboration with Mrs. Garusinghe teacher-in-charge of Grade 3. Mr. Jayantha Kithsiri and  Mr. Thushara Bandaranayaka made the models to demonstrate. Mr. Roshan Fernando provided the technical assistance.

Language Learning with Colours – 3rd Session

Language learning activities were carried out using multimedia in collaboration with Ms. Vasana Priyadarshani, subject teacher for Grade 1 and 2 on 7th November, 2013.

Further, Mr. Thushara Bandaranayaka conducted 3rd session on “Language Learning with Colours” using colour papers with respective class teachers. Mr. Roshan Fernando and Mr. Manjula Jayatilaka provided the technical assistance.

Let’s Draw ...

To fulfill the long-felt need of teaching drawing in Bodhiraja Vidyalaya, Mr. Thushara Bandaranayaka volunteered to conduct lessons. First lesson on linear drawing took place for Grade 1 and 2 children on 7th November, 2013.

Language Learning with Colours – 4th Session

Not only colour but shape, texture of a material can make the activities wonderful. Mr. Thushara Bandaranayaka conducted 4th session on “Language Learning with Colours” using different materials such as rice, grains, seeds etc. on Thursday, 14th November, 2013 with respective class teachers. Mr. Roshan Fernando, Mrs. W.K.S. Sandamali and Mr. Upul Priyantha provided the technical assistance.

Proud to be Sri Lankans

Mrs. Upeksha Kodithuwakku revealed the proud history of our motherland briefly to the students of Grade 3, 4 and 5 on Thursday, 14th November, 2013. Mrs. Indika Prematilaka assisted Mrs. Kodithuwakku to conduct the session. At the end of the session an assessment was held in collaboration with Mrs. Welikala teacher-in-charge of Grade 5. Mr. Roshan Fernando provided the technical assistance.
