As a result of two outreach activities, “Reading Camp” at Bodhiraja Vidyalaya, Katubedda and “Child Development Programme” in Sumudu Preschool, University of Moratuwa, Library made a significant impact in children’s’ education as well as reading awareness. Going the extra mile, Library invited parents to participate in reading awareness programme “පොත් කියවමු - දැනුම වඩමු” since they could be involved as partners of reading which will develop a lifelong love of reading in their children. This programme was held on 5th September 2014.in Auditorium of the Library, University of Moratuwa. “පොත් කියවමු - දැනුම වඩමු” was organized in parallel to 10th anniversary celebrations of “National Reading Month”. Mrs. K.R.N. Harshani, Assistant Librarian of Faculty of Applied Sciences, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka was the resource person.
About 65 parents participated for the programme. Cooperation of National Library and Development Services Board, Martin Wickramasinghe Trust, Expographic (Pvt) Ltd., and Sports and Welfare Association, University of Moratuwa is greatly acknowledged. Creative designs by our own staff members especially Mr. Melro Mendis, Thushara Bandaranayake, Mr. Roshan Fernando Mr. and Mr. Jayantha Kithsiri added great value the event. The dedication and contribution by the Library staff as a whole made it a great success.
