Prof. Spreckelmeyer visited the Department in July on an International exchange program for four weeks. He delivered lectures to students of level four who were preparing for their fifth-year dissertation research .His lectures were on the work of second-year architecture students at the University of Kansas to the second-year studios, and on his own work in healthcare design and research. He reviewed studio work of current design projects of Level four students and the early work of the Urban Design graduate students. He also reviewed the design work of all the other levels in the five-year B.Arch. degree program and level 5 dissertations. He discussed with faculty members about their own research and teaching agendas and has introduced them to Faculty members at the University of Kansas and other American institutions about the possibilities of collaboration and exchanges in the future. He will continue to work with his colleague at Kansas, to establish further opportunities for teaching and research collaborations between the Universities of Moratuwa and Kansas.
Prof. Spreckelmeyer’s impression of the student work and faculty instruction in the five-year professional degree program was very positive. He found the students to be engaged and enthusiastic in the studios and research. He stated that the work of the students was comparable to that in the fourth-year curriculum at University of Kansas, and the level of design resolve high. He was very interested to continue to consult with the administration and faculty in the Department of Architecture to improve relations between the two universities and search for opportunities for exchange and cooperation.
