The Physical Testing & Quality Control Laboratory is one of the busiest laboratories in the Department. In addition to hosting laboratory classes in Textile Testing and Fabric Structure for the B.Sc. Engineering and B.Des. courses it also provides support to undergraduate students in carrying out their project work and course assignments. It also provides extensive support to postgraduate students for the research related practical work.
The laboratory is one of the Department's Textile Testing Laboratories, and carries out a wide range of tests on a variety of textile materials. Our range tests include:
Strength tests
Dimensional stability to washing
Abrasion & Pilling
Yarn properties
Special fabric properties
Fabric & Garment measurements
The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the art machinery, including the Instron Universal Testing Machine, Uster Evenness Tester, Mullen-type Bursting Strength Tester, Martindale Wear & Abrasion Tester, ICI Pilling Tester, Shirley Hydrostatic Head Tester, etc.
Under the ADB Science & Technology Personnel Development Project the laboratory facilities have been further enhanced by the addition of a Nu-Martindale Abrasion & Pilling Tester and a new fully computerised Instron Universal Tester.
