The Foundation stone laying ceremony of the proposed building for the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) of the University of Moratuwa was held on 10th February 2022. This proposed building will house all necessary state-of-the-art facilities to create an interactive and encouraging learning environment for the students. The expected date of completion of the first stage of the project is March 2023.
The foundation stones were laid by Prof. ND Gunawardane (Vice-Chancellor), Prof. PKS Mahanama (Deputy Vice-Chancellor), Prof. NK Wickramarachchi (Dean/Faculty of Engineering), Mr. V. Sivahar (Head/DMSE), Dr. Mrs. AS Galhenage (Dept. Coordinator) and representatives from the consultants and contractor, with ‘pirith’ chanting at the auspicious time.
Prof. KKCK Perera, former vice-chancellor, and present secretary to the ministry of education, was invited as the chief guest for the occasion. He was unfortunately unable to attend due to unavoidable circumstances.
The occasion was also graced by the presence of the officers of the university, deans of faculties, heads of departments, students of DMSE, academic and non-academic staff of DMSE and academic, administrative, and non-academic staff of other departments, divisions & units.
Following the foundation stone laying, Dean/Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Wickramarachchi and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. ND Gunawardane addressed the gathering. The message sent by the chief guest Prof. KKCK Perera was read by the Vice-Chancellor. The function was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the head of the department, Mr. V Sivahar.
