Prof. Chung-Che Chou, Associate Dean, College of Engineering, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Head, Building Engineering, National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering and Dr Wen-Cheng Liao, Associate Director, Center for South East Asia Education from National Taiwan University visited University of Moratuwa on 15th February 2019.
The Vice Chancellor welcomed the visitors and briefed them of the faculties which comprised the University of Moratuwa, the MOUs entered into for academic and student exchange, Joint PhD and Joint Research Masters programmes and stressed that UOM’s Masters and PhD graduates were highly sought after around the world and by Industry, and are very passionate about academics.
Prof. Nalin Wickramarachchi, Dean-Engineering, Prof Gihan Dias, Director/International Relations, Ms. Yashodara Karunaratne, Assitant Registrar, External Affairs and Ms Sandra Cadirame, Consultant/International Relations were also present at the meeting.
Prof Chou stated that he looked forward to the participation of UOM at the 9th Asian Engineering Deans’ Summit to be held in May 2019 at the National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, co-organized by National Taiwan University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and National Taiwan University.
The visitors gave a visual description of their University which has a high QS World ranking. The University has 6 Campuses around Taiwan with 6 Departments and 10 Research Centres, and consists of a 262 strong faculty and almost 5000 students, around 130 of whom are exchange students. Presently, the NTU has extensive research in smart cars, submarines, solar battery systems, wind energy, robotics, etc.
Prof Gihan Dias expressed his interest in Joint Masters and PhD Programmes with joint supervision, especially in the areas of Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
