MSc / PG Diploma in Architectural Conservation of Monuments and Sites (ACOMAS)

The MSc in Architectural Conservation of Monuments and Sites, is a two-year, four-semester programme, designed for graduates from various fields of studies, to specialize in conservation of historic monuments and sites.

First-two semesters will cover the theoretical aspects of conservation works, and the last-two semesters are allocated for a report on conservation project and a dissertation based on extensive empirical research.

Practical training and hands-on experience of live conservation projects under the guidance of expertise are integral part of the course programme.

• Conservation Practices, Legislation and Charters

• Documentation in Conservation

• Urban Conservation

• Conservation Technology l & ll

• Painting Conservation

• Conservation Project

• Dissertation

 

Optional Modules :

• Geology in Conservation

• Iconography

• Introduction to Archaeological Investigation and Excavation

• Artifact and Paper Conservation

• Dating and Chemical Analysis in Conservation

 

Entry Requirements:

(i) Honours Degree of Bachelor of Architecture.

 

(ii) Honours Degree of Bachelor of Design and a minimum of one year of relevant experience.

 

(iii) The Degree of BSc (Built Environment) or BSc (Town and Country Planning) or BSc (Quantity Surveying) or BSc (Facilities Management) or BSc Engineering and a minimum of one year of relevant experience.

 

(iv) Any five year degree course in architecture, recognised by the Faculty of Architecture and approved by the Senate.

 

(v) One of the following degrees and one year of relevant experience

Bachelor of Arts with Archaeology as a subject

Bachelor of Science in Engineering

Bachelor of Fine Arts

Bachelor of Science in Physical Science

Bachelor of Science in Bio Science

Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts

 

(vi) The corporate membership of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects or Institute of Town Planners Sri Lanka and one year of experience.

 

Duration:

MSc: Two years (part-time)

PG Dip: One year (part-time)
