Dr. Mahinsasa Rathnayake, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Moratuwa expressed his views at Ada Derana Big Focus Live Discussion that was telecasted on 30th June 2022. In this TV program, Dr. Rathnayake joined with Dr. Ruchira Wijesena, a Senior Lecturer, Scientist and popular science communicator to discuss the topic "Fuel Security and Alternative Fuels for Sri Lanka". Dr. Rathnayaka added his views with a focus on alternative biofuels, energy circular economy and sustainability in a simple way so the general public can absorb the complex phenomena behind the crisis and possible solutions available to Sri Lanka. Dr. Rathnayake serves the department since 2013 and Teaches Plant equipment design, Computer-aided chemical engineering, Energy efficiency and conservation, Clean Technology and Research Methodology. Further, as a researcher, he focuses on Biofuels, Sustainability, Process simulation, Life Cycle Assessment(LCA),and sustainable waste recovery.
